Shire Tavern is a family-friendly American-style tavern located in Dalton, Massachusetts. We offer full-service dining, a craft beer selection, entertainment including billiards and games, and private event space for parties of up to 100 guests. We're a genuine neighborhood gathering spot serving every demographic in the Berkshires.

Where are you located?

We're located at 63 Flansburg Ave, Dalton, MA 01226, in the heart of Berkshire County. We serve guests from throughout the region, including Pittsfield, Lenox, Lee, Stockbridge, Great Barrington, Williamstown, North Adams, and surrounding areas within a 45-minute radius.

Is Shire Tavern family-friendly?

Absolutely! We welcome families and guests of all ages. Our atmosphere is casual and comfortable for everyone, from young children to seniors. We're a genuine neighborhood tavern without pretense.

Every Friday and Saturday from 9pm to 12am, we offer late-night pizza — perfect after a night of billiards and games or for a late bite. It is available for dine-in during these hours.

Yes! We can accommodate large groups. For parties over 20 people, we recommend contacting us in advance or considering our private event options to ensure the best experience.

Private Events Questions

What types of events can I host at Shire Tavern?

We host all types of private events, including birthday parties, corporate events, rehearsal dinners, anniversary celebrations, graduation parties, retirement parties, holiday gatherings, fundraisers, family reunions, bachelor/bachelorette parties, and any special occasion you can imagine.

What is your capacity for private events?

We can accommodate up to 100 guests for private events.

What are your private event packages and pricing?

We offer several options:

  • Billiards Room Rental: $150 for up to 10 people (Tuesday–Saturday) with optional add-ons
  • Full Venue Weekday Buyout: $1,800 minimum toward food/drinks (Tuesday–Thursday)
  • Full Venue Weekend Buyout: $3,500 minimum toward food/drinks (Friday–Saturday)
  • Full Venue Closed Days: $250 rental fee + $1,800 minimum toward food/drinks + $100 bartender fee (Sunday–Monday)

What does the "minimum" mean?

The minimum is a food and beverage minimum that goes directly toward your event costs — it’s not an extra fee. For example, with an $1,800 minimum, that amount is applied to your food and drink purchases for your event.

Are there any hidden fees?

No. We believe in transparent pricing. The costs listed in our packages are what you pay. The only additional costs are the food and beverages you choose for your event (which count toward your minimum).

How far in advance should I book my event?

We recommend booking as early as possible, especially for weekend dates, which fill up quickly. Contact us to check availability for your preferred date.

Can I do a site visit before booking?

Absolutely! Contact us at berkshireculinarygroup@gmail.com to schedule a time to visit and see our space.

Can I customize my event menu?

Yes! We offer extensive customization. Work directly with our team to create the menu, setup, and experience you want for your event.

Do you provide bartending service?

Yes. Bar service is included in our packages. For events on closed days (Sunday/Monday), there is a $100 bartender fee.

Can I bring my own decorations?

Yes. We work with you on setup and decorations to make your event exactly what you envision. Discuss your plans with us when booking.

What if my guest count changes after I book?

We understand guest counts can fluctuate. Contact us as soon as possible if your numbers change, and we'll work with you to adjust accordingly.

Do you offer catering for off-site events?

Shire Tavern hosts events at our Dalton location. For off-site catering throughout the Berkshires, contact our parent company Berkshire Culinary Group at berkshireculinarygroup.com. We can also coordinate combined services.

Can I rent just the billiards room for a party?

Yes! Our billiards room rental package is perfect for smaller groups of up to 10 people. It's $150 and includes private use of the room with pool tables, shuffleboard, games, jukebox, and TVs. Available Tuesday through Saturday.

Are you available on Sundays or Mondays?

Yes! While we're normally closed on Sundays and Mondays, the entire venue is available for private events on those days. The package is $250 rental fee + $1,800 minimum toward food/drinks + $100 bartender fee.

Billiards & Entertainment Questions

How much does it cost to play pool?

Public pool tables are available at $6 per hour per table during our open hours on a first-come, first-served basis.

Do I need to reserve a pool table in advance?

Not for public play — tables are first-come, first-served at $6/hour. However, if you want guaranteed access and private use, you can reserve our entire billiards room for $150 (up to 10 people).

What other entertainment do you offer besides pool tables?

We have shuffleboard, card games, a jukebox where you can pick your favorite songs, and TVs for watching games. It's a complete entertainment experience beyond just billiards.

Can I bring my own pool cue?

Yes

Do you host pool tournaments or leagues?

Contact us for information about tournaments and league play.

What's included in the billiards room rental?

For $150, you get private use of our billiards room for up to 10 people, including access to pool tables, shuffleboard, card games, jukebox, and TVs. Optional add-ons include a domestic beer bucket ($50), pizza ($50), or wings ($50). This package is available Tuesday through Saturday.

What is Berkshire Culinary Group?

Berkshire Culinary Group is the parent company that owns and operates Shire Tavern. BCG also provides full-service catering for events throughout the Berkshires, serving a 45-minute radius in Massachusetts. They cater everything from simple foil pan pickups to high-end gala dinners.

Can I use Berkshire Culinary Group for catering at Shire Tavern?

Yes! We can coordinate enhanced catering options through BCG for events at Shire Tavern, or BCG can cater your event at other venues. Visit berkshireculinarygroup.com for more information.

Does Berkshire Culinary Group cater at other venues?

Yes! BCG caters at various locations, including local country clubs (Berkshire Hills Country Club), American Legion Post 155, and other venues throughout the region.

Reservation Policies

To ensure the best dining experience for all our guests, please take a moment to review our standard reservation guidelines.

  • Punctuality: We hold tables for a grace period of 15 minutes past the scheduled reservation time. If your party has not arrived within this window, the table may be released to our waitlist.
  • Complete Parties: To maintain our service flow, we seat parties only once all guests have arrived.
  • Time Limits: To accommodate all diners, we may implement a table time limit during peak hours—typically 90 minutes for parties of two and 2 hours for parties of four or more.
  • Cancellations: We kindly request at least 24 hours' notice for any cancellations or significant changes to your guest count.
  • Large Groups: Parties of 8 or more may require a credit card on file to secure the booking and may be subject to a fixed service charge or a pre-set menu.
